I am writing to formally report a very serious and upsetting incident that occurred during my dogs’ grooming appointment on January 18, 2026, at the Petco grooming salon located at 1100 Middle Country Road, Selden, NY 11784. I brought my two dogs to this location for an 11:00 AM grooming appointment. The groomer assigned was Gina Marie. I have used this Petco location many times in the past and previously had positive experiences, particularly when our original groomer, Marissa, was employed there. Gina Marie had groomed my dogs once before and that visit was acceptable, which is why I felt comfortable returning. However, this visit was absolutely terrifying and unacceptable. Upon entering the grooming area, I immediately observed another groomer handling a dog in an extremely rough and aggressive manner, including pushing the dog. This made me very uncomfortable, and I even expressed my concerns to others at the time. Despite my discomfort, I trusted that my dogs would be treated safely and humanely. Approximately 2.5 hours later, I received a text stating my dogs would be ready in about an hour. My family and I went to the parking lot and waited. After about 30 minutes, we received a call informing us that my smaller dog, Hazel, had been injured and needed to be taken to the vet because her ear had been cut during grooming. We immediately went to the designated veterinary office, where the staff initially had no idea what we were referring to. After waiting, Hazel was brought out in a cage with visible blood all over her ear and was taken in for treatment. When we asked the Petco employee who brought her in—who appeared to be a general manager or supervisor—what had happened, he stated that he did not know and would need to call the store to get details. The lack of communication, accountability, and basic awareness of a serious injury to my dog is deeply disturbing. Hazel also has unusual marks on her body that were not present before the appointment. This incident reflects extreme carelessness and a failure to provide a safe, calm, and loving environment for animals. Grooming facilities should prioritize animal safety above all else. What occurred was traumatic for both my dog and my family. I am beyond upset and will never return to this location. I expect this matter to be taken seriously, including a full investigation, accountability for those involved, and assurance that appropriate, qualified, and compassionate groomers are employed. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Both the cashier and the manager were shockingly rude and unprofessional while I was simply trying to purchase a fish. The verbal interaction with a male employee was completely inappropriate and disrespectful. I never leave reviews, but this one needed to be posted. What made this even more unacceptable was the fact that many of the fish in the store were clearly in poor condition, showing a lack of basic care and responsibility, which was simply ironic. I have been a loyal Petco customer for years at the Patchogue location, but after moving to Centereach, this experience guarantees I will never return to this store. The lack of professionalism and respect was extremely disappointing.

I wanted to get a guinea pig for my daughter but I did not know much about the animal other than it’s small and hairy. That’s when I met Jackie and she was so amazing. Very knowledgeable, patient, passionate and genuinely took the time to explain everything including proper care and dietary requirements for my daughter’s new pet … she was so amazing that I walked in to get one and then I decided to get two. She literally walked the isle with me and helped me pick out all the things that I needed to provide a comfortable space for the guinea pigs …. Thank you Jackie … you rock!

the treatment of fish at this establishment is abhorrent. there were more dead ones than alive. how does that even happen? how long has it been like this? clean up your tanks, take care of your animals, or don’t carry living animals if you can’t keep them alive.
