(from Google)Took my 8 year old and 4 year old and we did the trails along the mountain that weren’t iced over. Kids had a blast. We found the little creek up in the nook and my kids are excited to go back to see what else we can find!
This trail is a trail that extends across the old shoreline of ancient Lake Bonneville. It has a rich history with the natives who lived here before other settlers came, along with generations of hikers, explorers, and others wanting to see the sights. Maybe it's because I'm a history nerd, but that strikes a chord within me. Despite large swaths of it being unmaintained, the trail is beautiful.
Thurston peak on the Great Western Trail. Brutal at speed. Beautiful. Perfect. Solitude and spartan beyond 3 miles. Mostly non-technical. There's a scramble up the big bowl past the horse camp. Some rock hopping in the transit to Thurston. Wear gators for the woody scrub. Great views along the entire journey. Touch the sky.
Awesome trail. Easy walk, one creek crossing. We were there during a dry time so crossing wasn't an issues.
This trail is so nice and is pretty easy hike. Is kids and dog friendly. The parking lot is not that big and is a very trafficked trail, go early and you will find your spot. Also you will find a restroom at the trail head. My son and I we walked until we found the Adam's Canyon trail and came back, it was a 6 mile hike approx. 2 hours for us for the full hike. It's a really nice place to jog, walk and mountain bike.
