Bahia Beach Nature Preserve

This is a nice, short walk. You will see many species of shore birds, ducks, wading birds, wondering birds, and occasional turtle, and lots of mosquitoes! Bring bug spray.

FREE! Just a SMALL nature preserve with a walking trail. Lots of trees, different plants, and of course a view of the water with beautiful birds to admire. Also saw and heard a ‘Marsh Rabbit’ for the first time. They make the cutest little noise😍 Just came here to have a few minutes of peace surrounded by nature. I only had a short time so I didn’t go all the way down the walking trail otherwise I definitely would have. There’s no playground or anything like that so probably not very entertaining for small children. Great place to just let all the other things stop for a few minutes and allow yourself to breathe. When I make it back to do the whole walking trail I hope to find a bench to sit on and journal for a few-but even without that, it’s perfect🙏🤍

Bahia Beach Preserve is right off Route 41 near E.G. Simmons Park, and it’s a place I return to for its abundance of life and quiet beauty. I’ve never seen so many different species of birds coexisting in one area: a convergence of wings, grasshoppers, crickets, butterflies, and frogs, a living symphony filled with the song. I enjoyed a gentle afternoon walk of about 4,000 steps, moving through shifting ecosystems along the lake. At the moment, the path goes straight out and back. I hope one day they open the trail that wraps around the lake so visitors can complete a full horseshoe loop back to the parking area. Even without that, the walk is deeply rewarding, filled with native plants, wildflowers, and a calm presence that invites you to slow down, listen, smell, and notice. Nice little hike. I wish it were a loop rather than walking in and out on the same path. Easy enough for kids. It was quite swampy smelling. But overall it was a positive experience.

This is a nice place to go for a peaceful walk between two large ponds where sometime a lot of birds gather. It is an easy walk maybe a little less than a mile one way.
